So the studio date is getting closer and closer (June 4th) and I'm getting pretty excited. I'll actually be going down to meet my producer Will Ackerman and see his studio in Vermont on May 21. I'll be driving through the beautiful spring mountain scenery and if you visit Will's website you'll see he has an amazing spot
http://imaginaryroadstudios.com set right in the middle of it all. Will has kindly suggested that I spend some time getting used to the piano I'll be playing, an amazing Steinway B grand piano - it's world class. Check it out for yourself if you'd like
http://imaginaryroadstudios.com/the-piano . I'm so glad he's giving me the opportunity to do this. I don't have access to a grand piano right now and the action and feel is very different from an upright piano, or electric piano. In my past experience the differences between types of pianos have been so pronounced that I've actually found myself writing differently depending on the type of piano I'm playing. So I'm anticipating that the pieces I record will change a little bit to fit Will's piano better. I'll be taking some video of the trip and the studio in May so stay tuned. It will be a unique opportunity to peak into the inner workings of a world-class studio.
